Domestic workers play a large role in rearing young children in urban India. In fact, a recent study suggests that India has around 4.75 million domestic workers, with a significant number of these workers being hired to look after infants and young children. This is no small feat, as the first eight years of a child’s life is a crucial period during which they develop emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically. Hence, not only are domestic workers responsible for looking after the safety of these children, they are also handed the responsibility of nurturing them.
Usually originating from rural or low socio-economic backgrounds, domestic workers are not always equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to nurture young minds adequately, specifically related to the holistic growth and development of children. This where Little Learners comes in! We recognize the crucial role domestic workers play in fostering healthy minds and bodies and have developed a multifaceted approach to educate domestic workers in these areas.
